2011 Horizon Fertilizers Yield in the Field Program
Horizon Fertilizers Ltd. would like to invite you to participate in our 2011 “Yield in the Field
Program”. This program was called the “High Roller Program” and will be re-named “Yield in the
Field” to better suit its intended use, obtaining results in the field. This is the fifth year we have
offered this program to our customers. We have focused on using the agronomic products and
information available through our retails to increase yield and evaluate different products. Customers
that have participated in the program have found that the information developed from their own farm,
along with information developed on other farms, has gone a long way in evaluating the value of
product offerings. We have also tried to incorporate learning by offering tours, demo product and
preferential access to new technology. At our Results Night we try to summarize results in a format
that gives value to all that participated in the program. For the past couple of years we put together
a “Results” book to summarize the findings of the program. The final part of the program was to have
some fun along the way. This past season brought many obstacles and hurdles that limited the number
of participants and results at the end of the day. We anticipate having more normal participation
levels for the upcoming season and see the potential to collect valuable information once again.
As the HFL Field Program evolves, participants have given feedback indicating that they are more
interested in the results, and how the results were attained, as opposed to there being a contest for
the highest yield. Last year’s program went a long way in providing participants with information
in the form of a “Results Booklet”. This year we would like to build on that momentum and have
participants focus even more on field history, climatic information, soil type and nutrient levels.
Program results to this point in time have primarily been focused on canola. We would like to
continue this work and at the same time expand the program to include work with cereals and pulses.
Those participating in the 2011 HFL Yield in the Field Program will be asked to provide agronomic
information that will tell the story about how that field came to be. We will then summarize the
information and provide a copy to this year’s participants – remember it’s all about the results!
In order to participate in the HFL Yield in the Field Program products must be purchased from one of
our four locations (Lake Lenore, Humboldt, Cudworth and Bruno). Participants will again be asked to
choose the area of the field to be tested. This is your chance to test a variety of agronomic tools and
information. Please take this opportunity to do your own on-farm field research – leave a check strip
and try a number of different treatments.
Provisions have been made to make a number of products available to participants. This includes
fungicide and foliar nutrient treatments for canola, peas, and cereal crops. We also have a number
of tours and meetings planned which include a sprayer application clinic, fungicide clinic, insect
awareness and scouting, various research plots and a Results Summary Night.
For those that did not participate, you can go to any of our retail locations and see the “2008 HFL
High Roller Results Book” that show pictures and information gathered during the year. We look
forward to tracking the 2011 program and providing yield and agronomic results for participants –
remember it is all about the results!
This year the entry fee will be $250 per participant. We are again going to be awarding trips for two
to Las Vegas. This year we will have you decide who came up with the best trial and award them a
trip for two to Las Vegas. The remaining trips will be awarded by way of a draw at the results night!
We anticipate having a buy-in option for those that wish to extend their fun-in-the-sun down South! If
you have any questions or want to discuss setting up a plot please call to discuss ASAP. Thank you
for the business and we look forward to servicing your crop input needs in 2011.
